At the threshold of the installation is a concordance.
By its definition, a concordance is an alphabetical arrangement of the principal words of a book with reference to the passage in which each word occurs. A concordance is also an agreement or harmony. In stylus, it draws on an older definition of the word - a composition combining and harmonizing various accounts.
Horizontal lines of text which contain “spine words” – selected by you - are lifted from international English language newspapers. The lines are pulled from their original context in the newspaper and arranged according to the alphabetized list of principal words. This process results in a field of text with juxtapositions of accounts, aligned to create new possibilities and contexts for meaning.
